Siblings were Doris, Stanley, Nolan, Vernon and Max Boyd. He married Geraldine Ruth Beachler, July 22, 1947, in the Logan temple. Survived by his four children, Melanie Bassett (Dennis), Lynette Hughes (Don Richards), W. Boyd Hughes (Nancy), Glen Hughes (Joanne), fifteen grandchildren and forty-three great-grandchildren.
His family moved to Milford, Utah, where he attended grade school and Milford High, class of ’41. After graduation from high school, he attended Utah State University on a music scholarship. He enlisted into the Marines in 1942 during WWII. While on Active duty, he attended University of Colorado, graduating with a BS degree in Civil Engineering.
His first job was with The Bureau of Reclamation working in Kemmerer, Wyoming, where he met Ruth. Wallace left the Bureau because he preferred working outside and the challenge of constructing dams, roads, and bridges. As a result, he was hired by Gibbons and Reed and transferred to the Portland, Oregon office. After eight years, his family moved to Redding, California. In 1963, Wallace and Roy Ladd started Hughes & Ladd, Inc. Together they built a very successful construction business. He retired 10 years later to spend more time with the thing he loved the most, his family. In 2005, he moved to Layton, Utah, after increasing health problems.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many church positions. He loved his country and was dedicated to church, community, work, and family. One of his hobbies was woodworking, making intricate inlaid furniture. He enjoyed the many hours spent in his shop making tables, desks, and jewelry boxes for family and friends. He was an avid golfer, won many racket ball tournaments, and kept physically fit by exercising well into his eighties. Mom and Dad traveled in their motor home, visiting all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. Their most treasured memories were trips with Stanley and Louise. They told many interesting stories about all their adventures to Alaska.
He is preceded in death by his wife Ruth, parents, siblings Stanley (Louise) Hughes, Nolan Hughes, Joan Hughes, Max Boyd Hughes, Doris (Maurice) Johnson, and granddaughter Rochelle Bassett.
