Walter E. Mullins

September 3, 1927 — November 5, 2016

Walter E. Mullins, our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother, mechanic, fishing buddy, and friend passed rejoicing into the arms of his Heavenly Father and loved ones on November 5, 2016.

He was born on September 3, 1927 in Treece, Kansas, to Walter M. and Dorothy H. Mullins.  Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Murray, Utah where he attended school at Murray High School.  Thereafter, he enlisted in the Navy and served his first tour of duty in the South Pacific during World War II and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.

Upon arrival home, he went to work for Chicago Bridge and Iron and met his first wife, Arlene, as they served as dance directors for the all church dance festival.  They danced to the Salt Lake Temple on April 26, 1950, and were married there to dance eternally together.  Shortly after their marriage, dad was called back into the Navy during the Korean Conflict and again served his country.  He arrived home just two months before the birth of their first child, and two more children followed.

After the death of his first wife, Arlene, he married Zola Mullins.  After a 30 year career at Chicago Bridge and Iron, he retired and built a beautiful cabin on the Buffalo River in Island Park, Idaho where he and Zola spent many happy summers together fishing and welcoming family and friends into their home there, sharing their love for the beauties of the outdoors with their children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Dad was attacked with Alzheimer’s disease, and although it took from his ability to do many of the things he loved, his mischievous smile and teasing ways were always with him endearing him to hearts of all of us.  The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Heritage Place and Envision Home Healthcare and Hospice for all their countless hours of dedicated service to our dad.

He is survived by his wife and fishing companion, Zola and his children Karen (Bruce) Powell, Shirlene (Chuck) Brown, and Darwin (Kim) Mullins, fifteen grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at noon at the Cottonwood 6th Ward, 6300 South 725 East, Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday morning at the church from 10:30 until noon preceding the services.  Interment will be at Elysian Burial Gardens.  Our gratitude to Russon Brothers Mortuary for their great kindness.
