Walter Joel Smedley passed on December 22, 2021 from natural causes at home surrounded by family and friends. He was born on October 27, 1943 to Edna Mae Smedley and Walter Thornley Smedley.
He worked many years in the automotive industry starting at Olsen Chevrolet and Retired from Brent Stephens Auto Body.
He served in the Army in the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment driving a tank in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Joel served as the President and held many other titles in the Salt Lake Valley Racing Association for several years, he also served as an official with the United States Auto Club. He has a great love for racing, and helped support many local race car drivers. He could always be found watching a race.
He is survived by his wife Louise Smedley, by his brother Lynn Smedley, his children Stephanie Astle, and Chad Smedley, his grandchildren Braxton Astle, Brolin Astle, Landon Smedley, Rylee Haro, and Brynn Astle and his great grandchildren Jay and Blakey Haro.
A viewing will be held prior to services on Tuesday, December 28th from 12:30-1:30pm at the Farmington Russon Mortuary, 1941 North Main, Farmington, UT. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm. Joel will be buried in the Kaysville City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Sprint Car Hall Of Fame and Museum.
