Walter Karl Fassmann

"Opa"

(1922 – 2015)

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully one day short of his 93rd   birthday.  He was born on January 31, 1922 to Walther and Anna Clara (Foerster) Fassmann in Zwickau, Saxony, Germany.  He married Eleonore Ingeborg Beckert on August 13, 1949, in Zwickau and  they were later sealed in the Cardston Alberta Temple in 1953.  They spent 65 wonderful years together.

Walter and his wife immigrated to the United States in 1955 where he and his father founded Quality Plating Co.  Walter loved to take road trips as well as travel the world.  He was fascinated by the stars and was often found photographing the night sky.  He and his wife served an LDS mission to the Frankfurt temple and they continued their passion for genealogy when they returned.

He is survived by his wife, Inge and their four children, Karen (Jared) Birth; Ellen Jarvis; Glenn (Heidi) Fassmann; and Judy (Dave) Oeser; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  Walter is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Heinz, and sisters, Erika and Helga.

A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 South 200 East in Salt Lake City, Friday evening, February 6, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.  Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Foothill 7th Ward, 2215 E. Roosevelt Ave. (1460 South), Salt Lake City, with a viewing from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. prior to services.  Interment will be at Salt Lake City Cemetery.  Funeral Directors, Russon Brothers.

We would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Silverado Alzheimer's Center for four years of loving care and service for our dad.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.  Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com
