Walter Pratt Holbrook passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 in Bountiful, Utah. He was born May 31, 1923, in Bountiful, Utah to Vera Pratt and John Walter Holbrook. He married Marjorie Artis on October 8, 1946, In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Walt and Marjorie lived numerous years on the East Coast and eventually came to settle in Bountiful, Utah in 1972 where they have resided ever since.
Walt taught his children the value of hard work which stemmed from his own work ethic at a very young age. He had his own vegetable stand on 500 South and 500 West when he was about seven years old and helped to support his family with the proceeds. He was mischievous as a child and youth and was often involved in all sorts of funny “happenings” around Bountiful and when you saw the sheepish grin on his face and the twinkle in those baby blues, you had to wonder just what he was up to. He had beautiful blue eyes, one of the many things Marjorie loved about him.
Walt served his country in World War II, earning the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 4 battle stars, and the army Good conduct medal and World War II victory medal. Walt met Marjorie in Philadelphia after the war.
He served as Branch and District President of the Erie Pennsylvania mission, cub master and home teacher for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the accounting profession, and held various positions in the Cuddahy Packing Company, Telemail, and HHI Corporation. Dad finally slowed down to working a couple hours a day at the age of 89 and “retired” around age 91.
He is survived by Marjorie Artis Holbrook, his wife of 72 years, and his children, Stephanie Todd, John W. Holbrook, Karen Holbrook-Hughes (Jackie), and Veronica Holbrook-Bentley (Doug), four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Family would like to give a special thanks to Brighton Hospice for their incredible care and Legacy House of Bountiful for their dedicated care.
