Walter Elmo Wanberg Returned with Honor

Our hero, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Walter Elmo Wanberg, age 88, died August 16, 2007 of old age among those who loved him. He was born April 7, 1919 in Midvale, Utah, the son of Walter France and Vashtia Emily Wanberg. Elmo married Barbara Burton July 2, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Barbara, who died of cancer in Salt Lake City, Utah August 28, 1997. He served in the Army during World War II between 1943 and 1945 as a clerk. During the war he was in both France and Germany where he went after the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for 42 years as an accounting clerk for United States Smelting, Refining and Mining Company, now known as U.V. Industries, Inc.. Elmo was an avid gardener, hiker and fisherman. He enjoyed taking his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren into the mountains to enjoy the beauties of nature. He and Barbara taught their family how to enjoy gardening, hiking and fishing. In short, they taught their family how to love and care for God?s earth. Today this legacy lives on in the lives of their children Eileen DeHart, Walter Daniel Wanberg Lynne, John Gerald ?Jerry? Wanberg Geneve and Marilyn Shewell Daniel, their 20 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Stake Missionary and as Ward Financial Clerk under seven Bishops. He and his wife served as Ordinance Workers in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and as missionaries in the Ohio Akron and Texas Houston Missions. He served with Barbara as a volunteer at the LDS Hospital. Elmo graduated from Jordan High School and the LDS Business College. Funeral Services will be held at Noon on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Rose Park 9th Ward Chapel located at 760 North 1200 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. Family and friends may call at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah on Monday, August 20, 2007 from 6 to 8 PM, and prior to the service from 10:45 to 11:45 AM at the Rose Park 9th Ward Chapel. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery 3115 East 7800 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. Online guest book available at www.russonmortuary.com
