Wanda Lucille Mattson Draney Martin Lunsford

Wanda quietly and peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from an aortic aneurism.

Wanda was born on February 28, 1931 to Vernon Mattson Sr. and Ella Williams Mattson in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She graduated with honors from Murray High School where she played the piano and saxophone and drums in the school band.   She then went on to work at the Veteran’s Hospital in SLC, Utah then Hill Air Force base for 35 years until retirement.

Wanda has one brother, Vernon Mattson Jr.  Her parents and brother have proceeded her in death.

Wanda married and divorced three times but felt very blessed because they gave her five beautiful children, four sons and one daughter: Stanley Bruce Draney, Richard Rick Martin, Anthony Tony Martin, Terry Martin and Linda Martin.  She was later blessed with 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

After many, many moves in her life she was thrilled to finally lay down roots in the same house in Centerville, Utah for 65 years.  When she moved there it was nothing but dirt roads and very little homes, wow how it has grown!  As a single parent she struggled and worked very hard to keep her children in that home.,  It was her priority so they could have roots and a community in such an unstable and uncertain world.  It was no easy task but she prevailed.

Wanda was the sweetest, kindest, most caring person, even when life was not too kind, she never let it jade her.  She always had a bright outlook even when things were dark.  She would always say, “everything will be ok, this too will pass”.

She will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Centerville South Stake Center, 270 North 300 East.  All are welcome to visit the family before the service at 11:00 AM.  Online guest book available at www.russonmortuary.com.  You can also contact Linda, Wanda’s daughter at 385-319-2896.
