Wayne Beck

March 26, 1917 — February 5, 2012

Wayne Moore Beck returned to his heavenly home and to many dear loved ones early Sunday morning, February 5, 2012. He began his mortal journey in Spanish Fork, Utah March 26, 1917. He was the third child and son of John Milton and Leila Moore Beck. He became a skillful farmer and he had an enduring love of the land and animals. He graduated from Payson High School in 1935 and went on to study at Brigham Young University where he was a member of the ballroom dance team. In 1938 he was called to serve an LDS mission to Brazil where he preached the gospel in German. He married Evelyn Williams Moon in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 1942. They are the parents of five children.
Wayne was employed at Deseret Mortuary until he and Evelyn were called to serve a two-year proselyting mission to Brazil in 1946. They sold all their worldly goods and set sail with their two young sons, Gary and Jim, this time preaching the gospel in Portuguese. Wayne served as a member of the mission presidency and traveled a great deal around the country. This second mission solidified a life of love and service to the people of Brazil.
After returning home Wayne and Evelyn moved to Bountiful. Wayne began working for ZCMI and he remained there until his retirement. He excelled in his various responsibilities and cherished his coworkers.
In 1963 he was called to preside over the Brazilian Mission for three years. Callings took Wayne and Evelyn back to Brazil from 1985-1990 where he served as the secretary to the area presidency and then as president of the Sao Paulo Temple.
He diligently served his Heavenly Father in many capacities. His love of missionary and temple work was the hallmark of his life. He served as a temple worker and sealer for over 30 years and had the great joy of performing the marriages for most of his posterity.
After Evelyn’s passing in 2005 he moved to Heritage Place where he brightened the days of friends singing and playing his harmonica.
Wayne is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn, and his oldest son, Gary, his parents and seven siblings. He is survived by his children, James (Linda), Centerville, Utah, Susan Stapley (Michael), Buenos Aires, Argentina, David (Robyn), Bountiful, Utah, Curtis (Carol), Centerville, Utah, daughter-in-law, Elaine Beck, Glendora, California, 27 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
