Earl Wayne Smith our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away December 31, 2011 as a result of a torn aorta. Wayne, age 80, was born September 27, 1931 to Earl Ivan and Emeline Rolenia Jensen Smith in Sandy, Utah, the first of six children. He was married to Lucille Woffinden Smith Abblitt on March 24, 1954 in the Manti Temple. They had two children, Lisa Marie and Michael Wayne. They were divorced in June 1968. Wayne was then married to the love of his life for 41 years, Martha Jean Furness Smith on September 24, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his wife Martha, daughter Lisa Smith, son Michael (Paula) Smith, granddaughter Rebecca Smith, grandson Duncan Smith, brothers Floyd (Becky) Smith, and Harold Smith, and sisters Gail Schroder and Ardith (Dennis) Leavitt, brother-in-law Roger (Sharron) Furness and sister-in-laws Mary Furness and Sherri (Charlie) Furness Holloman. He is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Emeline Smith, his parents-in-law John and Della Furness, his brother-in-law Ed Furness and his sister and brother-in-law Joan and Richard Brown. He was an active member of the LDS church holding many positions in his wards and stakes. His favorite calling was as a Gospel Doctrine teacher, and he loved working in and attending the temple. He served in the Navy and also served a mission in the East Central States Mission. He worked in the LDS Church Financial Department for 23 years. He lived in Utah his entire life except for eighteen months when he and Martha lived in Samoa while working for the LDS church. He attended BYU and loved learning, reading the scriptures, genealogy, puzzles, fishing and spending time with his family. He was best known for his sense of humor. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the West Bountiful 5th Ward, 840 North 800 West, West Bountiful. Family and friends may call Friday from 6-8 PM at Russon Brothers Mortuary 295 North Main Street, Bountiful and Saturday from 9:45-10:45 AM at the church. Interment will be at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Bountiful. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
