On Friday, November 4, 2016, Wesley Ted Hill returned home to his Father in Heaven after spending his last tender moments on this earth with his 3 children and loving wife. Always the competitor, he fought to give the ones he loved everything he could until the end. As a devoted husband, father, son, and friend he leaves a legacy of love and faith. To know Wes was to love him.
Wesley was born the youngest of 5 children in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 29, 1986, to Gregory Miller Hill and Cheryl Koelliker Hill. He suffered from congestive heart failure as a child and received a heart transplant on June 16, 1996. Even at this young age, Wes realized the second life that he had been given and never took that gift for granted. He was cherished by his family and would make them all smile as he turned everything into a competition.
Wes loved to be active with his family and friends, and his passion was infectious. You could count on Wes to suggest a round of ball tag, a quick tennis match, a game of backyard dunk ball, or just playing catch. He often said, “If you couldn’t keep score, it wasn’t worth playing.”
Appropriately, Wes met his sweetheart Ally on the basketball court at the University of Utah’s LDS Institute. Finding a similarly competitive soul, Wes challenged Ally to a pickup game with the loser buying ice cream. Ally matched Wes trash-talk for trash-talk, but Ally bought the ice cream. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple August 15, 2009.
Wes loved cheering for the Utes and proudly earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from the University of Utah. He went on to earn a Master’s in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix. Wes worked as a Sales Manager for Sole Fitness for seven years. He enjoyed spending time with his colleagues and channeled his sporting spirit into both his work and the breakroom’s ping-pong and foosball tables.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wes received his Eagle Scout Award in 2002, and spent two years serving as a missionary in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 2005-2007. He had Christ-like love for all those he met and led others by his example of kindness and humility. His service within the church never ceased and whether knowing a person for a moment or for a lifetime, Wes gave his all to make them feel uplifted and supported.
His greatest endeavor in his too-short life was as a father and husband. He did everything for his children and spent as much time as he could with them. Wes often stayed up late reading stories, making them giggle, and testifying of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a coach to all, and this year was able to fulfill a dream by coaching his two daughters on their first soccer team. He loved having a home filled with play and laughter, and always welcomed visits from family and friends.
Creating and honoring memories became very important to Wes. He left a beautiful journal and several letters to his parents, siblings, wife, and, most importantly, his sweet children. Now that his physical presence is no longer with us, the reminders of his life and legacy will be cherished for years to come.
We are deeply grateful to the Sole Fitness family for their continued love and support and the amazing efforts and care from the University of Utah Healthcare team.
Wes is survived by his wife Ally; 3 children, Olivia, Blakely, and Jaxon; father, Gregory Hill; mother Cheryl Hill; siblings, Tony Hill (Jennifer), Jeremy Hill (Jennifer), Amberly Croft (Jacob), and Stephanie Danner (Nathan).

Wes lived life with verve and joy, and faced his mortal struggle with uncommon grace, strength, and humor. We are humbled by his example, inspired by his faith, and dearly look forward to one day seeing him again.
