Willard B. “Bud” McDonald, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 9th, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on September 20, 1945, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Clyde Rex McDonald and Venice Timothy McDonald. He graduated from Union High School in 1964.
Bud joined the National Guard from 1965-1971, where he earned an honorable discharge. During this time, he met the love of his life, Marianne Spafford. For 58 years, together, they shared a deep and enduring bond, one built on love, respect, and mutual support. Bud always showed a remarkable love and concern for his wife, from their first days together to his final moments. His devotion to her never wavered, and the strength of their relationship was evident to all who knew them.
He was a true lover of the outdoors, loving hunting, fishing, and enjoying time at his cabin. His connection to nature and the Western landscape was a big part of who he was, and he found peace in the quiet of the wilderness.
Known for his incredible wit, Bud was a gifted storyteller. His sharp sense of humor and ability to recall the most surprising facts made him a joy to be around. His children fondly remember his endless supply of random trivia and the way he could call upon fascinating details at a moment’s notice. His love for learning was contagious, and he had a unique talent for turning any conversation into a memorable experience.
His calm, wise demeanor and thoughtful advice were pillars of strength for his family. Bud was always ready to offer guidance with patience and a smile, and his children will forever cherish the quiet wisdom he shared. His steady presence, coupled with his sense of humor, made him not only a great father but also a true friend to those who knew him.
Bud was a devoted parent and grandparent, loving his children and grandchildren endlessly. His pride in his family knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He found joy in watching them grow, offering wisdom, laughter, and unwavering support. His legacy of love will live on through them, and they will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
At age 56, Bud faced a tough battle with prostate cancer. Through determination and strength, he courageously overcame the disease. Resilience and his sense of humor helped him during this difficult time.
Bud is survived by his wife Marianne Spafford McDonald and his 4 children, Jerry (Stephanie) McDonald, Teresa (Rick) Vassar, Jennifer (Mike) Smith, and Marcie Andersen. His 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandkids, and the grandkid in-laws. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
