1937 Bill 2023

William Carol Cahoon

May 30, 1937 — November 26, 2023

On the morning of Sunday, November 26, 2023, William Carol Cahoon passed peacefully and quietly through the veil into his season of rest to be reunited with his beloved father, mother, brothers, and countless family members and friends who had gone before him. His life was one of good humor, devotion, and service to his family, God and fellowman.  He will be deeply missed as a loving husband, father, neighbor, grandfather, and pillar of his hometown community.

Bill was well known for his friendly smile, infectious spunk, and lively hard work ethic.  Growing up in South Bountiful, UT, he enjoyed all activities, especially scouting, where he learned the skills that would bless his entire life.  He ran track and played football at Davis High School and boy, was he fast!  He continued his love of sports by playing softball until he was 81 years old. Bill instilled this love in his children and loved watching them play.

As an avid hobby farmer, Bill cultivated his acreage on 1500 South with delicious vegetables, and tender beef and lamb.  He loved animals and cared for cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, pigs, cows, and horses. Bill loved the land and could frequently be found helping his neighbors on their land with whatever needed to be done.  He could fix anything and loved the opportunity to do so.

Bill married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Benton, in 1956 and they became the parents of a son, Noel Benton Cahoon. After divorcing in 1959, Bill began working at the Bountiful City Power Plant where he fine-tuned his mechanical engineering mind.  In 1961, he met Jeannine Wright at a dance and they began dating. On September 30, 1965, Bill and Jeannine were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of six children.  Making their home in Woods Cross, Utah, Bill accepted a position at Hill Air Force Base, where he worked for the next 27 years.  As a family, Bill, Jeannine, and all of the children enjoyed sports, music, camping, hunting, traveling, and pick up games of all kinds.  They worked and farmed together, enjoying the fruits of their labors each fall.

Bill served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many callings giving him opportunities to grow spiritually.  He and his wife performed service missions together and enjoyed singing sacred music in various ward and stake choirs.  Bill’s big, warm, and beautifully deep bass voice was enjoyed by many congregations.

Bill was a devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, and neighbor. Bill “Lengthened His Stride” in all he did. He was a hero and pillar of strength to all those who knew him.  His life exemplified the goodness found in loving and serving God and his neighbor.

Bill is survived by his sister, Bonnie M. Whiting, his wife, Jeannine, and seven children: Noel (Kristie) Cahoon, Weston (Jamie) Cahoon, Heather (Marshall) Paepke, Caroline (Randy) Bass, Megan (Kevin) Gillespie, Melissa (Aaron) Baxter, Dan (Luther) Cahoon.  Together they have 22 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
