William Thomas Carpenter
22 September 1953 – 7 January 2014
William Thomas Carpenter, 60, husband, father, grandfather, patriot, servant, and friend died peacefully at Davis Hospital of natural causes on January 7th, 2014.
William spent his young adulthood serving in the US Army performing signal intelligence in Augsburg, Germany. It was there that he learned of and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After his discharge, William served a full-time mission in Anaheim, California.
Following his mission, William met his eternal companion Paula Mattson. They were married in the Washington, DC temple on December 28th, 1978. Soon after William graduated from the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, and began his professional career as a Finance Officer for the Central Intelligence Agency. He and Paula built a beautiful life together centered on family and the gospel. Together they adopted two fortunate children, Jared and Devin.
William loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and the opportunities it presented to bless the lives of others, including callings in bishoprics, branch presidencies, and serving in the Bountiful, Utah temple for 6 years. William loved those around him, and was ready to serve in any way he could.
Playing cribbage, studying astronomy, hiking, spending time chatting on the phone with his loved ones in Wisconsin, and doing daily crossword puzzles were some of William’s favorite past times. However, his passion was his family. They always came first.
William’s wife, Paula Carpenter survives him along with two children: Jared Ryan (Lindsey) Carpenter, Salt Lake City, Utah, Devin Jill Carpenter, Centerville, Utah; and 5 siblings; Kenny (Phyllis) Carpenter, Jimmy Carpenter, Larry Carpenter, Johnny Carpenter, Colette (Earl) Matzinger and Coleen Carpenter, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
