William Barnes Rigby

March 18, 1928 – February 24, 2013

William Barnes Rigby, 84 of Centerville, UT., passed away February 24, 2013. Born March 18, 1928 in Centerville Utah to Blanche Barnes and William Lowe Rigby. He was the ninth child, first boy of eleven children and spent his entire life on the family farm where he was born and raised. In his youth he worked for Smoot Dairy. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1953. A student of history, loved America, and had a sure knowledge of Gods hand in the founding of our Nation. Bill was a faithful member of the LDS Church serving in many callings. He enjoyed studying the gospel and sharing his knowledge with others. An avid storyteller who loved reciting poems. After years of bachelorhood, Bill married Helen Stevens of Holden Utah, January 28, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple. Bill took side jobs to help support his family and the farm, these included an undertaker’s assistant, a high school sports referee, and a professional rodeo clown with his trained Brahma bull named “Duke” and trick horse “Bonnet”. Bill drove truck into Idaho for Smith Milling and worked 32 years as a custodian at Viewmont High School and Centerville Junior High. He loved the land and farming was his passion, raising produce and cattle for many years. Bill served 30 years on the Davis Soil Conservation District. Served as President of the UACD and on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Conservation Districts. As a legislative lobbyist for the last several years he enjoyed working at the State Capital during the legislative session promoting conservation and good stewardship of the land.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and eight sisters. He is survived by his wife, Helen, his children Luci Raquel (Joe) Seeger and William Stevens Rigby, and four grandchildren, Jessica, Steven, Spencer, and David. Sister Jeanne (Marvin) Jones, brother Seymour (Pat) Rigby, and brother-in-laws Ole Ryerson and William M. Perkins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the LDS Church 1825 N. 210 E., Centerville, UT. Friends and family may visit Friday evening from 6 and 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, or Saturday, 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Farmington City Cemetery.
