William Robert Van Velkinburgh

August 16, 1950 — January 10, 2025

Bill Van Velkinburgh, 74, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Bill was born on August 16, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, to parents, Bob and Jeanne Van Velkinburgh.

For 28 years, Bill owned and operated his business, Bicin Sales, delivering not just products but friendship and laughter to his many customers. Upon retirement, he continued to foster the relationships that brought him joy throughout his career.

A man of many passions, Bill had an undeniable love for sports, particularly college football and NBA basketball. A lifelong fan of the Utah Utes and the Utah Jazz, he rarely missed a game and delighted in cheering on his teams, especially when inside the Delta Center.

Bill’s favorite pastime was golf, a sport he pursued with great enthusiasm. He participated in numerous men's leagues and golf associations, relishing the camaraderie and competition on the course. A proud achievement in his golfing career was hitting a hole-in-one at Davis Park Golf Course on July 15, 2000, a memory he treasured.

Never without wearing one of his signature hats and always wearing his slippers, Bill was quick with a quip and always ready when someone forgot to close the sliding glass door, asking, “Were you born in a barn?” He had a knack for correcting grammatical errors, especially when someone omitted the “t” in Layton. His wit and charm made him a beloved presence in any room.

A voracious reader, Bill could often be found in his favorite recliner with a novel in hand, revisiting familiar stories or discovering new ones. He also had a sharp mind for cards and enjoyed family gatherings where his skill and wit made every game memorable.

Above all, Bill cherished time with his family, celebrating holidays, birthdays, and life's milestones together. His warmth and quiet strength left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

Bill's legacy is one of unconditional love, perseverance, and an enduring zest for life. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy Van Velkinburgh; daughter, Valerie Stevenson (Kamron); stepchildren, Bryan Roberts (Rachelle) and Erika Brown; his sisters, Jeannine Flint and Jan Coleman; his nephew Ryan Roberts (Megan); his 11 grandchildren; and numerous friends and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory. A special thank you as well to Meggan, Paige, Angie and all the amazing Abbington Senior Living staff.
