Wyona Davis

Wyona N. Davis passed quietly from a satisfying earth life of events and music at the age of 89. She was born in Annabella, Utah after Christmas in 1929 to Verl Nordfors and Vashti Ware Nordfors. As a teenager, her friends often accused her, as a joke, of causing the crash of 1929. Wyona was very active in extracurricular activities at South Sevier High School where she graduated in 1948. She received college credits from both Branch Agricultural College (University of Southern Utah) in Cedar City, Utah and the University of Utah. She married Raymond S Davis who lived in the neighboring town of Venice, Utah in June of 1951, at which time she became an Air Force wife in Cheyenne, Wyoming during the Korean War.

The next years were spent in Salt Lake City and Bountiful, Utah, helping her husband graduate from college, build a family house, raising a family of five children and also adding other loved children and friends to her extended honorary family. Among those children were two foster daughters Priscilla Sherman and Virginia Dixon and exchange student Clement Merville.

Wyona was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various ward and stake callings thru the years. Many of those years were as Primary music leader, creating many visual aids to help children learn the songs. She enjoyed years of teaching the Relief Society’s Cultural Refinement lessons which focused on literature and the culture of other countries. She wrote scripts for stake and ward productions and participated in the Orchard Stake’s annual “Prelude to Christmas”. The Lamanite program was part of her life for several years as a chaperone on the buses, hosting young girls in her home and producing special programs. Both Ray and Wyona served as Church Historical Department missionaries in their later years.

During the years her sons were on their missions, she substituted at several local elementary and junior high schools, providing her with more lifelong friends. She always supported her children and grandchildren in performances of any kind, be it concerts, sports or theatrical events.

Wyona loved watching movies from the 1930’s thru the 1950’s, especially historical dramas and musicals. She enjoyed reading historical based novels. Wyona and Ray taught dancing to the teens in Wyoming and in the years following, went to local church dances whenever possible. She always wanted to travel to the countries she had studied and was able to travel to the United Kingdom, Canada and Korea in her later years.

Wyona appreciated the visits by family and friends when she was not able to get out to social and family gatherings the past few years. She really enjoyed seeing again Jennie, Orval and Joan so often this past year at the Inn on Barton Creek. She appreciated the kindness, love and help given by all the staff of Barton Creek and South Davis Hospice this last year.

Wyona is survived by her husband Ray; children Raquel, Bradley (Nicole), Jansen (Tara), and Ronda; ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren and more to come. She was preceded in death by her parents Verl and Vashti; her sisters Corene, AnnaVee and Nola; her son Neale; daughter in law Joy Kendell Davis; and son in law Steven Dalrymple.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 6, 2019 at the Orchard 1st Ward, 3707 South 800 West, Bountiful, Utah, with viewings at the church Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday from 9:45-10:45 am prior to the service.
