Yoshiko "Sadie" Iemura Calder

July 13, 1928 — May 1, 2018

Yoshiko "Sadie" Iemura Calder was born with an independent and adventurous spirit, on July 13th, 1928 in Kagoshima, Japan. She was inspired to move to the U.S. by the love of her life, Robert Mac Calder, who she met after the Korean War, while working on the Itazuke air force base in Fukuoka, Japan. They chose Valentines Day of 1959 to get married so they would never forget anniversaries.
Sadie is best remembered for her love of fishing especially on the Kenai River in Alaska, her delicious home cooking, and her practical jokes. She was a fun mom, who taught us a whole lot while she was here: how to mix a Velveeta and garlic cheese bait that trout can't pass up, how to tie salmon flies that look like Christmas ornaments, how to scream when you see a snake (rubber or real), and how to travel in style with a bright pink walker. Sadie couldn't pass up a recent opportunity to fish with her husband for "bigger ones" in heavenly waters beyond our view. Other family members and dear friends have promised to guide her to the best fishing holes. She prepared her gear and cast her final line on May 1, 2018 as she departed the Inn at Barton Creek in Bountiful, Utah. We will miss her, but are excited to hear her "big fish stories" when we meet again.
Flowers and contributions to Trout Unlimited are both welcome.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, where a viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Saturday morning 9:45-10:45 am prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
