Zella Turner

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and grandma-great returned home to her Heavenly Father and loving companion on Friday, September 16, 2011, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Zella was born July 29th, 1933 in Tooele Utah to Charles Lester and Zella Walters Shields. She married her high school sweetheart Thomas George Turner in the Salt Lake temple, August 15, 1952. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2003.

Zella was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served as a Primary President, Relief Society President, and twice as Stake Relief Society President, among many other callings. She supported her husband when he served in the Roy North Stake Presidency. She also served with her husband as a missionary in the Substance Abuse and Recovery program.

Zella and Tom enjoyed boating and camping and spent the last years of their lives together on the lake at Flaming Gorge. They enjoyed traveling and were able to visit many places of the world. Zella supported Tom in every aspect of his life. Together they raised five children, and are the proud grandparents of thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart.

Zella spent her lifetime engaged in many aspects of service and she exemplified Christ like charity to those around her. She was poised and confident, but humble and caring in every assignment that she carried out.

Zella is survived by her children Diane, Kathy (Clay), Mark (Kim), Alan, Cheryl (Kris), thirteen grandchildren, four-great-grandchildren, her sister Geraldine (Wendell), brother Paul (Cathy) and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, brother Theron, and her parents.

The family expresses their deep appreciation to her many neighbors and friends that cared for her throughout her illness, as well as the doctors and nurses at LDS hospital and Dr. Regina Klein and staff. A heartfelt gratitude to the nurses at Access Home Health and Hospice and At Home Health who cared for and loved Zella.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 24th, 2011, at 11:00 at the Fairways Ward, 1533 North 1075 West, Farmington Utah. Friends and family may call Friday evening, September 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Russon Brothers Farmington Mortuary, 1941 Main Street and at the church prior to the services from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Saturday. Interment at Tooele City Cemetery at 3pm on Saturday.
