Zigmund James Peacock

Zigmund James Peacock moved on to new and exciting fishing grounds the evening of 26 July 2017.

Known to many as Ziggy or Zig, every individual he met became an instant friend of this great man. He could start up an easy conversation with everyone he met. Zig had a passion for fishing the many rivers, lakes, and oceans of this great land with his many friends and family.

Zig was born in Southport, Lancashire England to Jean Constance Mary Berry and Jan Lewicki 05 May 1944.   Ziggy had many adventures growing up in England and was known by first name with the nurses at the local hospital.  Among his more tame adventures was the opportunity to see the Beatles play in a small pub in Liverpool.   After joining the LDS church in England, he and his family immigrated to the United States 1964 and settled in Utah.   Shortly after arriving in the US, he served both a proselyting mission to North Scotland in 1964 and a building mission also in the UK.

For as long as he was able Zig spent many hours white water rafting rivers throughout the west, and particularly loved the Salmon River. The bent oar and permit tags still hanging on the garage wall illustrate his love of whitewater rafting.    One could frequently find Zig also riding his mountain bike through the city and skiing in the beautiful Utah powder.

Ziggy the "Mr. Wizard" of the University of Utah Physics Department.   He was a legend among physics laboratory demonstrators marking 28 years building one of the largest physics lecture demo facilities in the nation.  The 3,700-square-foot facility housed over 4,000 demos. Ziggy designed and built many of the demos himself in the department's machine shop.   He would take his Mr. Wizard show on the road to area schools and organizations.  He always got a thrill when one of his shows would lead to a future student telling Ziggy they were studying physics or engineering after seeing his show.   He touched multiple thousands of lives through his work in the Physics department and his lively demo shows.

Zig is survived by a multitude of family who loved him dearly.   On the Peacock side his sisters Janina and Sophia (Bob); half-brothers Bob (Jennifer) and Fred (Carrie); son Zigmund Kirk and family (Spouse: Teresa, Granddaughter: Haley, and Grandsons: Zigmund Logan, Zachary, and Eli), and former spouse Carol Bartlome' (Gordon). On the Maxwell side his loving life partner of 30 years Beth Maxwell; her children; Tracy Maxwell (Dan Zismer); Dan and Marsha Maxwell; Grandchildren: Ben Terrell (Wendi Marriott); Adam Herold; Brittany and Prestin Lucero; Great-Grandchildren: Jazmine Maxwell (Khristofer Manhard); Ronnie Maxwell Jr.; Trinitee Terrell: Hunter Terrell: Jacob Herold; Alex Lucero; Brooklyn Lucero; Joey Lucero; Jenessa Lucero; Amiah Lucero; Preston Lucero. Along with many life long friends and fishing buddies.

The family invites you to a celebration of Zig's life, Saturday, August 12th, 2017  from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Tower at Rice Eccles Stadium in the Varsity Room (casual/business casual).

Entrance is via Gate E on the Northwest Corner of stadium. Parking is available on the west side of the Stadium.
